Watching The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia, and I’m genuinely uncomfortable with how attractive I find young Jesco White. This probably speaks to my horrible taste in men.

Agreed, me too. :(

Tha Mo Ghaol Air Àird A’ Chuain
Julie Fowlis

I heard this song in the trailer of Pixar’s upcoming movie Brave. So I searched around the net and found the title and meaning.

This song is a Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig) song. The song is beautiful. And if you read the meaning, it’ll be much more.

Below I’ll post the translation. And of course, the link to the original lyrics.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

My Love Is On the High Seas

On a quiet evening at the beginning of May
When the bat was in the skies
I heard a tearful young maiden
Singing beneath the shadow of the green branches
The sun was setting in the sea
And no stars yet graced the sky
When the young girl sang sorrowfully
"My love is on the high seas"

The night's dew began to fall
Each bloom yielding softly to the droplets
The wind blew in a fragrant breeze
Bringing life and renewal to each field
The girl tunefully sang her song
Quiet and peaceful like the June dew
And this chorus constantly repeated
"My love is on the high seas"

Day darkened and the stars shone
Setting their course amongst the clouds
The maiden sat, burdened by her sadness
Her singing could not have been more soothing
I moved closer to the young woman
Singing of her love sailing on the sea
Oh sweet was her sad lament
"My love is on the high seas"

The music enticed me
Nearer to the brown-haired maiden of the warm eyes
And she prayed to the King of Heaven
"Protect my love on the high seas"
Her heart was breaking with love
When I took her by the hand
"Wipe your eyes, your love is safe
I have returned to you from the high seas."

I love her lips and bleary eyes.  Magnificent.

“I believe that the reason that it’s difficult for the gay community to be integrated into the society at large, the way they should be, is because there are no champions for them in Congress or in the White House. And that is the way every group of people has basically been integrated into the society. That’s the way it works. Instead, you have people like Rick Santorum, a senator from Pennsylvania, who says things, that he should think… and shut his fucking mouth. You can go ahead and think it, that’s fine, but you don’t say aloud that homosexuality is a threat to the American family. Because that’s prejudice. That’s complete and utter prejudice and ignorance on a level that is staggering at this point in time.”

Hrm… these areinteresting. Although the whole “a village of 100 people” seems so odd I’m just sitting here thinking “yeah, that’s how percentages work?”

Political Spat of the Day: Mitt Romney’s wife Ann joined Twitter this week to publicly refute DNC adviser Hilary Rosen’s assertion on CNN that, “Guess what, his wife has actually never worked a day in her life.”
“I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys,” reads Romney’s first tweet, posted shortly after Rosen’s comments aired. “Believe me, it was hard work.”
The Obama campaign jumped to Romney’s defense.
“I could not disagree with Hilary Rosen any more strongly. Her comments were wrong and family should be off limits. She should apologize,” tweeted Obama campaign manager Jim Messina.
Rosen responded via Twitter: “I’ve nothing against @AnnRomney. I just don’t want Mitt using her as an expert on women struggling $ to support their family. She isn’t.”
While no Betty White, Romney has 18,000 followers and counting.

And then — because Republicans hate it when someone gaffes bigger than them — this happened:
@CatholicLeague: Lesbian Dem Hilary Rosen tells Ann Romney she never worked a day in her life. Unlike Rosen, who had to adopt kids, Ann raised 5 of her own.
Parenting adopted children is equally difficult to parenting biological children. There’s no reason to make the distinction that, yeah, Ann Romney had biological children with her partner, but OMG Rosen didn’t so she must not understand motherhood.
I mean, Rosen’s point is correct: Ann Romney isn’t an expert on raising children while working outside the home and struggling to pay the bills. She just put it poorly, because OF COURSE being a mom is hard work. It’s just not *as* hard when you literally never have to worry about money in any way, shape or form.
Oh and then:
@alicetweet: Being a mother is the most valuable work a woman can do, my heart goes out to @hilaryr children if she doesn’t believe that
Ummm there’s really no need to concern-troll Rosen’s children. And really, really no need to assert that child-rearing is the MOST valuable work a woman can do. Sigh.
